**Friday, July 31, 2020 City Reliquary Live Presents: Mediocre Portraits of Outstanding People**
**Live at 8 pm EDT on the City Reliquary Instagram**

The City Reliquary's neighborhood artist-in-residence, [George Ferrandi](http://www.georgeferrandi.com/about), takes to Instagram live for an hour each **Friday at 8:00 pm EDT** to create a sketch of and reflect on someone who has been influencing her thinking this week during this remarkable cultural moment.

During this series, George will be listening to and learning from Black thinkers while attempting to honor them through portraiture, and sharing the experience live with our audience.

Last Friday, the focus was on organizer and freedom dreamer [Alicia Garza](https://blacklivesmatter.com/our-co-founders/), co-founder of Black Lives Matter. While we saw the portrait below take shape over Instagram, we heard [Garza in conversation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t10I31GFNCw) about resistance, resilience, and creating the conditions for political change.
Tonight on the City Reliquary Instagram, we will be honoring activist and scholar [Dr. Brittney Cooper](https://womens-studies.rutgers.edu/faculty/core-faculty/572-cooper-brittney). Dr. Cooper is a professor at Rutgers University and the author of [Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower](https://theglowup.theroot.com/eloquent-rage-brittney-cooper-knows-the-beauty-of-the-1823684559), about the creative universe of Black women and turning anger into power. George will create the eighth portrait in the MPOP series with a live drawing of Dr. Cooper, while broadcasting an interview with her. Tune in at 8 pm to watch the progress of this week's portrait - draw along if you like - and listen and learn from Dr. Cooper's analysis and insights.

We hope you'll join us at 8 PM on [Instagram](http://www.instagram.com/cityreliquary) ([@cityreliquary](http://instagram.com/cityreliquary)).
