**Friday, August 14, 2020 City Reliquary Live Presents: Mediocre Portraits of Outstanding People**
**Live at 8 pm EDT on the City Reliquary Instagram**

After a brief hiatus, we are back tonight on the [City Reliquary Instagram](http://www.instagram.com/cityreliquary)! We will be honoring writer, inspirational leader and public lands champion [Rue Mapp](https://www.ruemapp.com/). Mapp is the founder of [Outdoor Afro](https://outdoorafro.com/about/), a non-profit leadership network connecting Black people with nature and changing the face of leadership in the outdoors. George will create the ninth portrait in the MPOP series with a live drawing of Mapp, while broadcasting an interview with her. Tune in **tonight at 8 pm** to watch the progress of this week's portrait - draw along if you like - and listen and learn from Mapp's passion for nature and inclusivity.

In our Instagram series *Mediocre Portraits of Outstanding People*, the City Reliquary's neighborhood artist-in-residence, [George Ferrandi](http://www.georgeferrandi.com/about), takes to Instagram live for an hour each **Friday at 8:00 pm EDT** to create a sketch of and reflect on someone who has been influencing her thinking this week during this remarkable cultural moment.

During this series, George will be listening to and learning from Black thinkers while attempting to honor them through portraiture, and sharing the experience live with our audience.

In our last MPOP edition, the focus was on activist and scholar [Dr. Brittney Cooper](https://twitter.com/professorcrunk?lang=en). While we saw the portrait below take shape over Instagram, we heard an interview with Dr. Cooper about the power of Black women.

We hope you'll join us at 8 PM on [Instagram](http://www.instagram.com/cityreliquary) ([@cityreliquary](http://instagram.com/cityreliquary)). While our doors remain closed, your support means more to us than ever. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the City Reliquary Museum Relief Fund to help us continue our mission of sharing New York's history with our community.
