**We're Headed to the Seltzer Works on Saturday, December 15! Just a Handful of Tickets Remain**
In the 1920s and 30s, Brooklyn was home to more than 100 seltzer bottlers and distributors. The Reliquary's beloved [Seltzer Bottles of Brooklyn](http://www.cityreliquary.org/permanentcollection/#jp-carousel-2575) exhibit showcases the glass bottles, hand-blown in Czechoslovakia and Austria, used for home delivery of seltzer and etched with the logos of some of these long-gone manufacturers.

Today, only one true seltzer works remains: Gomberg Seltzer Works in Canarsie, a.k.a. the [Brooklyn Seltzer Boys](https://www.brooklynseltzerboys.com). Each vintage bottle is hand-filled with triple-filtered New York City water, carbonated on site, and delivered to customers in a wooden crate.

On December 15, join the City Reliquary on a special tour of the Gomberg Seltzer Works! We'll see the bottling facility and siphon filler, learn about the history of seltzer in Brooklyn and the delivery business past and present, and finish with a seltzer taste test and that iconic Brooklyn treat: [egg cream](https://whatscookingamerica.net/History/NYEggCreamHistory.htm), made the only right way with Fox's syrups.

Our 11 a.m. tour is sold out, but **a small number of tickets are still available for the 12:30 p.m. tour**. We will meet at Brooklyn Seltzer Boys in Canarsie, 855 East 92nd Street, Brooklyn. [Tickets are $25, and $21 for City Reliquary Members.](https://www.artful.ly/store/events/16683)

We're planning a series of tours in 2019 that, like this one, bring objects in the Reliquary's permanent collection to life. Museum Members will receive special pricing or exclusive access to these events. Consider [City Reliquary Membership](https://www.artful.ly/cityreliquary/store/memberships) as a holiday gift for the New York City history buff in your life - or for yourself!

**Now on View in Community Collections: Jennifer Rice's Collection of Vintage Confetti! Meet the Confetti King of New Year's Eve at the Reliquary on December 28!**
The City Reliquary's Community Collections showcase provides a place for ordinary New Yorkers to display the carefully curated objects of their devotion, be they quirky, everyday, strange, or sublime. Our current exhibitor, [Jennifer Rice](https://www.instagram.com/_.stall._/?hl=en), collects vintage confetti and related ephemera from all over the world. She was first inspired to start collecting when she learned that workers renovating NYC's famed Rainbow Room [found confetti from the 1940s](https://www.wnyc.org/story/rainbow-room-restored-even-better-panoramic-views/) beneath the rotating dance floor.

Confetti celebrations have a special place in New York City history. The first ever [ticker-tape parade](https://untappedcities.com/2016/10/27/throw-back-thursday-1886-the-statue-of-liberty-is-dedicated/) happened on Broadway in 1886 when NY Stock Exchange traders watching the parade celebrating the dedication of the Statue of Liberty spontaneously tossed ticker tape from their offices onto the crowd below.

And of course, the biggest confetti event in the country is [New Year's Eve in Times Square](https://www.6sqft.com/new-years-eve-in-numbers-fun-facts-about-the-times-square-ball-drop/). Did you know that all the confetti is tossed by hand? The man who makes it all happen is [Treb Heining](https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/treb-heining-coordinates-times-square-confetti-drop-article-1.2929048), whose company has handled confetti drops at major events like the Super Bowl, Olympics, and Academy Awards. He'll be in New York to run the confetti operation at Times Square for the 27th consecutive year, and will make an appearance at the City Reliquary to talk about his work!

Join us on [Friday, December 28, at 7:00 p.m.](https://www.facebook.com/events/2261182790793586/) to learn what it takes to be the Confetti King! Entry is included with Museum admission, and is of course [free for members](https://www.artful.ly/cityreliquary/store/memberships). We'll have the Museum open special late-night hours with plenty of time to see all our festive exhibits.
[RSVP on Facebook!](https://www.facebook.com/events/2261182790793586/)
As a community museum, new exhibitions and programming are only possible with your support.
