The *Summer of Skate* kicks of with [Xanadu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltqjHjxZwEg), everyone's favorite love-to-hate romantic musical fantasy film starring Olivia Newton John, Gene Kelly, and Michael Beck.
Introducing the film is **Judy Lynn,** the Founder of [Goodskates](http://goodskatesinternational.com/index.html) who served as Creative Consultant in the film's skating sequences, and who’s own story is more intrinsically linked to the plot than we realize!

In celebration of the longest day of the year and official first day of summer, [theSoundshop](https://www.the-soundshop.com/) is presenting a music salon spanning all aspects of music and sound. This evening features five musicians, each showcasing a work-in-progress related to the theme of summer.
We are proud to announce that this event will take place as part of [Make Music New York](http://www.makemusicny.org/): a festival that brings together over 1000 free music events throughout NYC on the first day of summer.

*Summer of Skate *takes place in partnership with [FilmIndie Cinema](http://www.filmindiecinema.com/), a pop-up screening series aimed at (re)introducing audiences to must-see black cinema. As part of #EmpireSkate, films celebrating rollerskating culture within black communities will be screened on **July 6th** and **August 31st**.
