Santa is coming to The City Reliquary!

Meet Santa at the CR! [View this email in your browser]() Santa is coming to the CR! On** Monday, 12/21**, children can pay St. Nick a visit at his favorite NYC outpost! The jolly old elf will be at the Reliquary from 3-6 PM before heading back to work at the North Pole.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians can enjoy our current front-room [display](http://www.cityreliquary.org/inventionofxmas/ ): "The Invention of Christmas in New York: Images from Alex Palmer's *The Santa Claus Man.*" This show tells the fascinating history of the Christmas con artist who started the first "letters to Santa" program. Before J
ohn Duval Gluck, Jr. came along, letters to Santa were often discarded, unopened, by the US Post Office Dept. In response, Gluck created the Santa Claus Association. His efforts delighted the public--until NYC's charity commissioner discovered some dark secrets in Santa's workshop.

This event is free. Seasonal refreshments available! Also on view is *Like A Virgin, *our latest Community Collections [display](http://www.cityreliquary.org/communitycollections/) presenting the beautiful and quirky Virgin Mary collection of Kay Turner. Dr. Turner is an expert in folk Catholic belief and has collected numerous images of the Virgin Mary in forms such as altar statues, planters, medallions, and even emblazoned on pillowcases and socks. Her collection presents a powerful female figure beloved by believers and non-believers alike through the lenses of faith, art, fashion, and kitsch.
